The online media has rallied on and on about the new semantic tags, advanced animations, server-side fonts and all the other new features that HTML5 and CSS3 will provide. What is missing from the equation is the next major development in web design–page layout.
In spite of advancements in developer software, even the newer tools lack the ability to take the pain out of page layout. The ability to work around the solution through the use of floats, absolute positioning and JavaScript is not the answer.
The use of Flexible Vox Layout syntax can help–but the W3C will be updating the syntax over the next year. Other layout options that are under consideration by the W3C include a Template Layout and Grid Positioning.
