Google Now Ignores Its Country Domain When Returning Search Results

Google is changing the way it localizes search results. In the past, Google has used top-level domains to determine which results to show users. For example, if you went to Google.co.uk and searched for “pizza restaurants,” Google would have shown you pizza restaurants in the UK.

Now, however, Google will rely on the user’s detected location by default to determine which results to display. So if you are located in Los Angeles and search Google.co.uk for “pizza restaurants,” you will see pizza places in Los Angeles, not the UK.

So far, it’s unclear exactly how this will affect Web developers, but it could impact SEO efforts.
